The bar raisers program is an essential, valuable element of the hiring process at Amazon. The company uses this program to allow its thirst for cultural alignment and self-improvement to scale higher than it would otherwise (Kantor & Streitfeld, 2015). The potential advantages of using bar raiser program at Amazon, in almost every instance, improve the interview discussion through the following ways; firstly, it keeps the focus of the people for most crucial and important information. Secondly, the bar raiser discussion forces interviewers in considering their feedbacks and responses in various perspectives. Thirdly, the program enable the discovery of hidden hiring agenda (such as need for serious near-term) and appropriate response to them. Fourth, bar raiser program serves as a reminder requiring new recruits to be 50% better than the present occupants of various roles. Finally the program aids in countering bandwagoning and group thinking (Amazon's Current Employees).
However, the use of bar raisers during hiring activity raises certain problems. Firstly, good bar raises normally perform greater course for the organization, whereas bar raisers with a weak influence can contribute the opposite effects to the company (Amazon's Current Employees). Secondly, the philosophy of bar-raising is quite overarching thus making it hard to reconcile with a fast-growing organization like Amazon (Kantor & Streitfeld, 2015). As the company becomes larger as it will even get tougher. For job applicants where bar raises are used especially in the warehousing department, it gives them an in-depth view of what the company expects of them thus prepares them for subsequent interviews. However, this program stresses more expectations for these job applicants.
