- What is translation shift?
- It is a language translation phenomenon in which the words of one language are translated and applied in another language.
- The original language from which the text to translated come from is called the source language.
- The language to which the translated text is applied/shifts to is referred to as the target language.
- English language is a source language in an English-Arab shift translation whereas Arabic is the target language.
- Change in word order during shift translation.
- There is a specific order in which words forming up every language undertake. The word order of English is different from that of the Arabic language ;
English language: subject+verb+the rest of the sentence
N/B: In English language the subject comes first as other words follow whereas in Arabic, the subject comes second.
- Aspects to consider during shift translation:
The shift translator needs to be cautious and be considerate to the following language aspects;
- The parts of the source language and the required parts of speech in the target language.
- The word choice to be used during translation.
- The art of numbers as counting factors.
- The tense in which the intended translation words should take.
- The voice choice is also very crucial translation .

- The contraction process
- Narrowing of the down of the meaning
- The omission of non-required meaning
- The exchange of the word meaning
- The total transformation of the text or phrase
