Arguably, college education is always stressful to students. As a matter of fact, the problems that student faces many problems, which include financial, social, psychological, as well as academic. In the 21st century, one of the challenges that students face in college is as a result of financial issues. Many students struggle to earn money by working and at the same time attending school. In order to meet this financial problem the students must make some adjustments so as both academic and work demands. The type of adjustments and financial problems students vary because of prior schooling, experience, course demands, as well as background. With the tremendous increase of college costs, students always find themselves in the unsteady financial position. Perhaps, what complicates the financial difficulties includes class workloads, desire to be personally and financially independent, as well as lack of proper support networks. Hence, there are tremendous problems that students face as they try to attend full time studies, pay for the cost of education, as well as working.
One of the problems that students face is the pressure to meet class work and part time employment under the small time. Certainly, failure to manage their time well is directly reflected in financial difficulties (King 2). On most occasions, it is so difficult for students to manage their available time. For a student to be successful, they have to meet the academic demands, to build a bright future. Many students would want to attend full time school work, and at the same time take up some part time job to meet their financial demands. The class work of students can require approximately forty hours homework, class work, and responsibilities, yet on the other hand work requires some time. Therefore, it is difficult for students to balance and manage both work and school.
In most cases, students feel left on issues pertaining financial crisis. In fact, they feel embarrassed to ask financial help and advice The students believe that asking for financial support and help from parents is a plausible option. They fear the anticipated anger and disappointment from the parents; hence, they tremendously feel alone when they are faced with classroom assignments, mounting bills, expectations, as well as living expenses. The entire problem that students face in such scenario is stigmatization and a feeling of being alone (Lee-Davies 20)
The students in college who work do not face a lot of challenges at work, but the problems that are asscocieted with work and school is stressful in the essence of the course schedule, course choice, academic hours, as well as accessibility to academic facilities. College education is very crucial to the life of the students, and cannot be expressed in terms of money. Education helps students meet their financial needs in the future, as well as teaching them important lessons. But focusing on work and school, at the same time could solve current financial problems, but may create long term financial problems. Having these in mind the students are put in a point of indifferent to either meet their current financial crisis at the expense of school.
Financial socialization in college is also another problem that students face when trying to meet financial cost, work and schooling. College is one of the diverse communities due to the fact that students come from different background (King 4). Parents in one way or another is a problem for their children on issues of money. This is so because parents are the first socializing agent on issues of money. The difficulties in family background and poverty levels distract the students from meeting academic demands and financial demands.
Undeniably, school management understands the financial problems that students pass through, yet they do not adjust its schedules. The schooling programs do not give room for students to work or be employed on a part-time basis. The educational program are academic oriented rather than giving the students an opportunity to explore other possible options.
It is crucial to comprehend that the problem of finance exists among students. Therefore, responsible stakeholders should develop and implement rational polices that will help the student overcome the financial problems, and the promblems of attending school and working. The educational programmes in school should include financial skills such as spending and saving. The educational programs of spending and savings will strengthen the financial focus of students. In addition, students should learn to manage their time well. As a matter of fact, time management will drive students into attaining both work and school objectives. Another solution to these problems is the establishment of a budget. Students should be determined in making a budget for the money they have in order to satisfy education costs.
Basically, students should make various adjustments in order to solve financial and time problems. Some of the adjustments that students should make include social and relationships. Students are always driven by social issue rather than financial and academic issues. By making these adjustments students will have more time to be divided for work and school (Lee-Davies 32). Loans in most cases help in fixing some financial problems, but students use it inappropriately. Hence, students should always use their loans appropriately. Studies show that working part-time does not affect the education negatively; therefore, students should look for part-time jobs to supplement their financial demands.
In conclusionn, it is evident that financial problems is an issue in the life of students today. Moreover, attempting to work and school at the same time can be very complex. Education costs are rising tremendously, yet students have no other sources of income. The only way to earn money is working in part-time. The problems that are associated with it can be solved through time management, proper budgets, self discipline, financial education programs, as well as behavior adjustment.
