Communication has become a significant player and component in the new era. There has been a drastic transition from the old primitive ways of communication such as messengers and smoke to newer electronic methods. The communications methods currently adopted mostly involves the use of electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, computers and letters among others. Communication through the above devices may take the form of voice calls, SMS, emails among others. Texting has raised controversies lately. This is because many scholars and observers have criticized texting stating that it makes one to lose concentration and focus especially to the teenagers.

First, texting is destructive and makes one lose attention. Although people think they can multitask, the opposite holds. Like any other automated device, example, a computer, the human brain can only undertake one chore at a time, therefore, multitasking implies swapping between two tasks in the shortest time possible. Unfortunately, the brain of a person cannot manage both activities at the same time; therefore, one of the activities will be destructed. This mostly occurs when driving and during lecturers just to mention but a few.
Secondly, some texts are lengthy characterized by symbols, characters, spaces and numbers. For one to insert all these, they have to indeed concentrate on the phone keypad making them lose focus. For example, some youths may bump into accidents while crossing the road, simply because they were fully concentrating on their phones texting forgetting to check on the oncoming speeding automobiles. Also during lecturers, texting is one factor that has diverted the concentration of many students.
A coin has two sides. With the demerits of texting outlined above, I still think that texting has its good side being the most preferred among the youths. Despite the concentration factor, texting is resourceful and in situations where one is not able to speak loud, texting becomes the solution. Secondly, one is able to store message for future clarity and future reference when needed. It can also serve as a proof in the court of law.
In conclusion, texting is one significant means of communication. Not only is it efficient but also cheap. However, texting can cause the life of an individual. Therefore, we should text in the right contexts and avoid in others. For instance, we should by all means avoid texting while driving and in class.
