Woodrow, the author of the article aimed to provide the readers with a better understanding of fundamentals behind w intrapleural chest drains. Woodrow p 49, shared that the article main purpose is to describe the intrapleural chest systems. It also gave the readers basic tips on providing safe nursing health care in relation to the chest drains and the type of damages the tool can assess. The device is significant because it addresses the need to lessen the burden caused by abnormal fluid and air found in between pleura that may increase the risk of respiratory problems and will lead to death.
The article showed different techniques that can be used in order to utilize the full potentiality of the device. It also gave precautionary to people who would use the tool, by saying that if not used properly it can lead to more bad than good. A basic knowledge of the device will aid the medical practitioners because it provides them with a tool that they can use in order to address such emergency situations (Woodrow p. 51). As a nursing practitioner, the basic information about the device will aid in providing patient safety and comfort to reduce the risk of further complications. The article is helpful because, it first introduced the harmful implication of excessive air or water into the respiratory system. The method used by the author is also interactive because he provided activities and visualization of the device. It is important for people to grasp the medical importance of the device because it will save many lives. The occurrence of emergencies in today’s time became unpredictable that it requires people to at least know the basics of saving lives.
Although the steps are useful for the further understanding of the medical device. The weakness of the article, however, is contrary to the one of the objectives of the article which is to provide a stepping stone for the development of care plan for the patient, the article only focused on the basics regarding the tool. It was more of a demonstration article rather that an article that provides guidance for care plan development.
