The article “Transportation Security Issues for the 114th Congress” the authors suggest that all transportation systems are widely designed for efficiency and accessibility. They concede that safeguarding the transportation system from terrorist attacks is challenging, but relevant strategies can be employed to deter terrorist attacks. Policy makers face the dilemma of constructing and financing an elaborate system of protection, deterrence, and response that considerably lowers the chances and effects of terrorist attacks without constraining commerce, travel, and civil liberties.
On the other hand, the article “Aviation Security” outlines some of the laws and regulations that legislators have implemented to try and protect the aviation industry from terrorist threats and attacks. The article outlines some of the approaches that security agents and airport authorities would employ to ensure that there is adequate security in airports to avert terrorist attacks and other mishaps. Furthermore, the article illustrates the methods that would be used to ensure that there is coordination between all means of transport including the marine, rail, and road transport systems.
The two articles are similar in the sense that they focus on some of the measures and strategies that policy makers have initiated and implemented in an attempt to bolster the security situations in all major airports in the United States. Furthermore, the articles underline the fact that the aviation industry has taken the issue of security seriously since the September 11, 2011 terrorist attacks. The article also illustrates that the Transportation Security Administration has adopted security screening strategies that concentrate on passengers that are thought to pose more risks to transportation systems.
