When we talk about communication first we need to ask ourselves what is communication or even better what that mean to us? When we look into dictionary we will find the act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., to someone else1.
For me personally any kind of behavior can be classified as communication. When you talk with friend it is obvious communication. When you hug them, when you wave to them, when you hit a table or shout, when you smile, when you wink or blink in surprise. Even when we do not want to communicate, like turning back to our acquaintance or trying to avoid eye contact with someone so that we don’t need to talk with them. Communication is not all about dialogue, writing letters, emails or engaging in some interesting chat. We can run from communication but in that running we are again communicating, we are sending message with our behavior, either we want or not.
Sometimes I want to talk with people, in way that I want to share my opinion and I will try to include myself in their conversation. Sometimes being passive is suitable for me also. It can happen that my behavior is provoked by some picture, song or someone’s voice or choice of words.
I like to recruit people in conversation, especially if they are new to me. That is great way to learn, to share, to connect with them and to see something different.
As I see it, communication is our urge, our need, something that we need to do in way to stay sane. Something completely natural, normal, that is in us and wants to go out, to merge with others, to shake and build something amazing.
