The demand and supply of illicit drugs has increased to such levels, which have warranted the federal to have several approaches characterized of a myriad of avenues to the same. This includes legislation, as well as criminal penalties, prevention and education of potential users, users’ treatment, and research on how to have effective treatment plans. Safety is a key consideration, which has been evidenced by the existence of drug education in America for almost a century. Drug education uses a myriad of approaches. However, these approaches keep on receiving challenges since it becomes complex to know, which approach is most effective (Inciardi, & McElrath, 2009). Moreover, the key target of drug education programs is the teenagers who exhibit resistance to the same.
Consumption of drugs occurs more in nightclubs. This illustrates that having healthy nightclubs is essential to curb drug consumption. On the same note, substance use acts as a major health risk to individuals. Therefore, as individuals visit nightclubs, there is a need to ensure that the environment of these nightclubs doe not encourage the consumption of drugs. As such, common sense drug policy should be adopted and implemented by all individuals. This will contribute towards minimizing the consumption of drugs. Efforts to use prohibitive measures may proof ineffective since drug policies tend to be expensive, intrusive, divisive, and punitive (Inciardi, & McElrath, 2009). Nevertheless, addressing these issues effectively would make the prohibition of the drugs an effective strategy of curbing drug consumption. The implication of the drug policy at clinical and societal perspective is that the cost of treatment is reduced significantly. Furthermore, the health status of individuals is improved throughout.
Personal reaction is that all the approaches used to curb the consumption and distribution of illicit drugs is effective. However, these approaches receive considerable challenges from issues such as corruption, distribution and consumption patterns, and prices of drugs. Therefore, the adopted approaches should focus on addressing these issues in order to ensure that the policing considerations are effective. It is true that drug policy contributes towards having a healthy society, but the adoption and the implementation of these policies determines the success level of such policy. Nevertheless, policing consideration for drugs should not focus on using punitive or harming measures to consumers of the drugs, but on rehabilitative measures.
