Jane is the case management coordinator for a large public teaching hospital, and she is responsible for all case management and discharge planning for admitted patients and directs activities through a number of case managers and social workers. Therefore, in order for Jane to assist her case managers better coordinate the work of the different professional, she needs to come up with strategies that favor them this entails use of strategies like the democratic leadership, team work and the strategy of communication. Democratic leadership strategy will ensure that each member is able to contribute to the running of the firm, and hence it will make them feel like they are art of the business. Communication will bring them together as it is what will assist them understand each other for efficacy. Team work as a strategy will lure them to work together as a team, and hence be able to reach their set target as one (Dyer, Dyer & Dyer, 2013).
In order to make better use of the available resources so that more work can be undertaken despite the limited budget, she ought to incorporate training activities among her staff. This is an essential approach as the staff will be able to handle more clients effectively using the available resources. Furthermore, motivating of hard working employees will be significant as they will be encouraged to use the available resource and reach towards the needs of patients at the hospital. This is true as being motivated through either word of mouth like ‘good work’ and through increase of their salaries are essential approaches. This is true as they will enable Jane to associate well with her workers and other case managers at the public teaching hospital. Thus, use of the approach of motivation and training of workers will be an essential approach for the public hospital as it will ensure that the set goal is reached despite the absence of enough budgets (Parker, 2011).
The underlying factors that may be contributing to the tension between case managers and social workers are that the workload has increased. This is because the hospital has seen an increase in admissions from poor patients with chronic conditions and social issues. Another factor is the Jane had requested for approval to hire more staff but as a result of limited budget, she was not able to, hence this has created an issue between workers and case managers at the public hospital. Additionally, another factor is that some case managers and social workers were not working well as a team, and also there is the issue of managers being hired to replace staff with social workers degrees. Basically, these are some of the factors that have contributed to tension and division among the staff. In additionally, the mentioned factors that are affecting case mangers and social workers have led to the aspect of thinking about oneself with little regard to the impact of other care givers (Dyer, Dyer & Dyer, 2013).
The theories that would offer insight into a possible resolution that is undermining the relationship between case mangers and social workers are human behavior theory and the communication theory. Thus, incorporation of behavior theory entails that work can only be accomplished via emphasis, cooperation, participation, satisfaction and interpersonal skills. Undertaking the mentioned aspect in the public hospital will ensure that all aspects that have been laid down are met. This is so productivity will be high in groups in which Jane and other case mangers share reasonable accurate perceptions of each other. This is true as good interaction and high performance work hand in hand effectively (Dyer, Dyer & Dyer, 2013).
Thus, the importance of the environmental context in shaping behavior is the overarching theme that has to be undertaken in order to have business that prospers. Communication theory is a field of information and mathematics, which consists of the technical process of information and human process of interaction. Thus, this theory is essential in this perspective as it will assist Jane to adequately interact with other case managers and social workers in the right perspective. Basing on the fact that communication theory is designed to assist parties involved interact, it is of importance as it will enable both case mangers and social workers to work together effectively. This is so as they will be able to work well as there will be coordination. Furthermore, Jane ought to encourage interaction among the parties involved; this will ensure that the public hospital where she works at prospers in their plans (Parker, 2011).
Conclusion
This paper illustrates in detail on a case study that entails what Jane does at the public hospital and what needs to be undertaken by her in order to make her work effective. In addition, it shows that incorporation of the theory of human behavior and communication theory ought to be incorporated. The theories are essential as they will ensure that both case managers and social workers work hand in hand and hence able to reach the set target by the firm. This is so as a case management coordinator, leadership is an essential entity that needs to be the key path to success (Dyer, Dyer & Dyer, 2013).
