The internet has transformed the way individuals conduct job searches and apply for suitable openings. According to Doyle (2014), the best search techniques look beyond the application process. Instead, it focuses on positioning oneself to tap into the available resources that would boost a job hunt. I applied these techniques in search of law enforcement jobs in Waterloo, IA and its neighborhoods (Doyle, 2014). The following is a summary of my results.
Based on my research, unfortunately, there are no current job openings for Parole Officer and other relevant law enforcement placements in Waterloo, IA. However, the Cedar Rapids City Police Department seeks to hire a full-time Police Officer. The officer will offer direct services associated with law enforcement, public order maintenance, and traffic control. Other duties and responsibilities include intervention, arrest, and emergency activities direction among others. They offer a starting remuneration package of USD 51,230.40. The closing date of application is on 18th February 2016 (Cedar Rapids, 2016).
The department encourages interested parties to apply for consideration if they meet the following qualifications. First, the candidate must be of good moral character. Second, the candidate must be between 18 and 65 years of age. Third, they should meet the 20/100 and 20/20 eye test requirement for uncorrected and corrected instances respectively. Fourth, they should possess a GED certification or be a graduate of an accredited high school. Fifth, they must be a U.S citizen and a resident of Iowa. If not, they must have the intention of becoming a resident upon employment. Sixth, the candidate, must have a valid driver’s license and can speak, write, and read English (Cedar Rapids, 2016).
In conclusion, this research offered more than just simple job opening results. It provided a background on how police departments in Iowa screen candidates who wish to join the force. For instance, they are clear in addressing the need for moral uprightness. They also insist on citizenship, minimum academic requirements for other qualifications (Discover Policing, 2016).
