Introduction
Subsequent to my prime interest in finance, I choose to follow the financial career path. Apparently, it is imperative to note that Finance is a very dynamic and assorted sector. With the above said, this sector in essence offers a variety of jobs where an individual with a degree in finance can comfortably execute. Considering that the jobs available in the finance sector vary considerably depending on the qualifications that one has particularly the level of education. One has the potent of acquiring a different kind of job at the different levels of education. The above means that a gradual progress in one’s academics as it relates to financing consequently improves one’s job position.
Requirements and qualifications
Considering that most of the jobs offered in the finance sectors sector are deemed lucrative, the qualifications required from an individual and quite high. Owing the exceptional nature of the jobs offered in the financial sector, the undergraduate degree is apparently the minimum requirement that one should have prior to acquiring a job in the finance industry (Fitch 195). The above is arguably true based on the notion that; most finance industry participants have graduate degrees. Though MBA’s are the common ones, other types of degrees and PHD’s are deemed relevant depending on its relation with the finance sector.
In addition to the above, the financial industry in essence has an explicit set of professional designations and essential licenses (Fitch 196). The most common professional designations perceived necessary in this filed include Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). In addition to the above, Series 7 & Series 63 licenses, are deemed essential prior to working in the finance industry. These licenses are normally offered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA.). These designations as required by the financial industry should come from an accredited institution. These designations are essential subsequent to the fact that, it gives one legal potent to transact particular types of businesses.
Optional Career Moves In Finance
Prior to acquiring a degree in finance, and meeting the minimum requirements of the designations and licenses mentioned herein, an individual can comfortably choose to work on any sector within the financial industry. In regards to the above, the following is a list of jobs that one can work in with the aforementioned qualifications.
- Corporate finance
- Commercial banking
- Investment banking
- Hedge Funds
- Financial planning
- Public accounting
- Insurance
According to Forbes magazine, the eightieth highest earning major is finance, with a college degree an individual can earn an average of $57,300; this is based on 2013 statistics (Adams n.p). The above establishes the fact that this sector is not only commendable in the types of jobs it offers, but also its earnings.
Promotions
Though salary in the financial sector is normally adjusted to suit the upgraded status of an individual in finance, one can be advanced as a way of endorsing the same. Promotions in the finance industry are unique subsequent to the fact that, individuals are normally given a new post that pays well that the preceding post, and not necessarily at a higher level. For instance, one can be promoted from an investment banking sector, to fund management, and later to hedge funds. In essence, this means that the different sectors of finance hold differing esteems apparent from the earning realized at each (Weissbrich s156).
Conclusion
Apparently, majority of the jobs available within the finance industry relate closely subsequent to the fact that most of them share the minimum requirements and qualifications required to enter the field. Considering that with a college degree in finance major an individual can earn an average of $55,100, it is imperative to note that this sector is well-paying. Additionally, the promotions in this sector are normally executed with close adherence to the amount paid at every level.
