As we know, without memory of past experiences a person cannot live a full-fledged life. The loss of memory can be easily compared to a loss of freedom. That is why studying of this human ability is of great importance. Knowledge obtained from such researches can answer a lot of questions and can help curing many diseases related to the memory losses. In our paper we will discuss two models of memory which are widely used when approaching scientific research of this human ability. They are a behavioral model and a cognitive neuroscience model of memory. Further we will decide which we consider to be better for us and why.
As we know, representatives of behaviorist theory developed its views by reflex mechanisms of formation of individual experience. Behavioral model interprets associations as elements of experience, based on the functional relationships between exercises, which depended on the results of learning. For this model a large importance is given to the human behavior based on which process of memory is examined. In our opinion, this model is more suitable for studying process of memorizing. This model acknowledges that there are many behavioral patterns. This model states that human memory can be trained which is rather encouraging. At the same moment, cognitive model of memory is based on a cognitive psychology, which studies the cognitive processes of the human psyche. According to this model, memory is a combination of various units and processes of information processing, each of which performs a clearly established role. Some blocks build a cognitive process which helps to memorize, while others temporarily store this information. The main disadvantage of this approach to examining memory is that it ignores activity of an individual during the process of memorizing, which is a priority in the behavioral model.
