Introduction
Prezi application is a cloud based presentation tool that has opened a new world between slides and whiteboards. It connects linear and nonlinear data with its user interface that can be zoomed. PowerPoint presentation is a computer-based program that is developed by Microsoft for business presentations. The main points of Prezi and PowerPoint application is that Prezi is best used for Non-linear data presentation while PowerPoint is best used for linear data presentation.
What each author says about Prezi and PowerPoint
David Wicks, the director of the Instructional Technology in Seattle Pacific University highlights the capabilities and features of both Prezi and PowerPoint. He states that Prezi provides a more modern image that is striking visually than the traditional PowerPoint that uses slides for presentation (Wicks, 2013). According to Bird, he says that both Prezi and PowerPoint applications have their own strengths and weaknesses. The re-invention of Prezi has brought about a big visual impact to the audience than the traditional PowerPoint which IS a less complicated application.
Differences between the two applications/programs
The following are the differences between the two programs. Prezi application is web based and can be shared on face book, Blackboard, and twitter. It has a limited printing option, and it is by default a public application, where one has to have an upgraded online account to make the application private, while Power Point application is computer-based and cannot be shared on twitter or face book. It has multiple printing options and the application has to be purchased and installed on a computer for it to be used. It is a private program since it has to be purchased for a single user or a multiple user.
Negatives and positives of each program
The Positives of Prezi application is that it makes sharing of ideas more fun and engaging because it creates an engaging experience that leads the audience down a discovery path. Its zooming application software gives one the freedom to choose between security of the desktop, freedom of the cloud and mobility of the iPhone or iPad. It works well with nonlinear structured projects. The negatives of Prezi application are; they easily distract viewers with its 3D functionality, thus making the traditional PowerPoint an appropriate method for business presentation. It is an over whelming to use and set up the application. The Positives of the PowerPoint application are; it is a popular tool of choice for giving presentation, it is an effective means of getting one’s ideas across in key phrases and the tools used to create a PowerPoint presentation are user friendly. The negatives of PowerPoint presentation is one can get tempted to create too many slides or try to squeeze too much information in one slide, which is not professional because it will tire the audience.
Summary of the main points about Prezi and PowerPoint
Concisely, Prezi application would be a good choice to present 3D presentations, for example maps, archaeology where the zooming feature shows a clear presentation with great visual effects of artifacts by moving along a timeline. The traditional PowerPoint is likely to be used for business presentation, for example board room meetings since it is not distracting. It simply works with a slide show effect and it is not complicated to create a PowerPoint presentation.
Conclusion
Each program would be best for their unique presentation styles. Prezi is good for 3D presentation such as maps while PowerPoint is good for office and business presentation due to its simplicity in use and both can be used to captivate the audience.
