Introduction
Public relation of NASA has effectively expressed a posture indicating that the agency has actually learn more in the overview that seeks to highlight how the management of the crises in the public domain means. The two great tragedies including the space shuttle in Columbia, that have happened and the agency got engaged in the rescue program, brings out the issue that helps explain how the approaches to the crisis should be handled.
The first lesson learnt is the importance of safety. This is a reflection from the tragedy in which the space shuttle called “the challenger” crashed killing the 7 crew members in Columbia. The human tragedies are actually turmoil to the rest of the nation and the family members. The NASA group helped to bring in to the limelight of the tragic happenings that did occur in relation to the tragedy. This is in reflection to how the NASA group did issue an emergency rapid correct public statement regarding the accident. This transparency is very important in the context that will help to updating the truth of the matter regarding a particular situation. This will definitely help to do a clear investigation over the issue and give a correct statement to the public domain without biases. Hence transparency in public relations is key to the communication process to avoid rumors and propagandist speculations over a matter.
The third specific lesson learnt with regards to the public relation concerning crisis is the importance of technological advancement and knowledge for the public practitioners. The example is how the National Aeronautics and Space Administration acted probe to the space shuttle accident that happened on January 28th 1986. This is when it exploded 73 seconds after liftoff. The technological knowledge of on how to deal with public issues led to the involvement of the various measures that saw to the airing of the specific accurate information to the public.
Another lesson is the importance of emergency services in the rescue of public crisis. This also highlights the importance that should be put into place in the requisite and the skills needed for counseling management. The example is illustrated by the way the NASA administrator Sean o’ Keefe appeared in the news briefing to report the emergence services and the relevant measures that were put into place to underscore the gravity of situation of the crisis. Hence action to the public crisis should be acted in emergent ways to help curb the unfortunate circumstances that does arise.
