Informative Speech
The guest of honor, other distinguished guests that have graced this occasion, ladies, and gentlemen, all protocols observed, water is one of the most precious natural commodities that we must always pride ourselves. Even though this product covers more than seventy percent of the planet, thinking that it will forever remain a fallacy (WWF, par. 1). The only available fresh water for human consumption accounts for three percent of the total available water. There are however concerns regarding the rate at which these water sources are disappearing with current information indicating that water systems like rivers, aquifers and lakes are either being polluted to an extent that they cannot be considered for human consumption or by them drying up. These two factors in addition to climate change patterns across the globe have resulted in significant scarcities in terms of water. To this effect, therefore, such a situation presents a challenge regarding global sustainability. There is the need to control pollution on water sources as a way of addressing the current and any future problems likely to stem from such pollutions. This paper will discuss two main reasons which lead to water shortage and the strategies which can be employed to address them.
Pollution
Pollution remains to be the leading cause of water contamination in the global scene. This source of water pollution comes from many causes including industrial wastes, untreated human wastes, and fertilizers being washed downstream from farmlands to water bodies. These pollutants not only affect surface water sources but also ground water (Wada, Yoshihide, and Marc FP Bierkens, 104003). The main harmful substances contained in these materials are in most cases toxic substances from industries and harmful bacteria which emanate from human wastes.
Population growth
The recent years have seen the global human population increase by more than half. This population growth has also been associated with increasing levels of industrialization and economic development which have eventuality resulted in the major losses in terms of biodiversity. Additionally, close to half of the human population resides in water catchment areas leading to significant concerns regarding the availability of fresh water (WWF, par. 8).
Solutions op these problems
There is the need to put up strategies to oversee the protection of the remaining scarce water sources to address the concerns stemming from such shortages. Therefore, it is crucial that the remaining wetlands are accorded the required protection. These sites are supposed to be protected from any forms of pollution and drainage. Secondly, there is a need to put a cap on the global pollution levels as a way of protecting both surface and ground water sources (Wada, Yoshihide, and Marc FP Bierkens, 104003). To this effect, human beings and industries have got the responsibility of ensuring that they recycle these waste products instead of dumping them in natural waterways. Recycling also plays the role of conserving the scarce natural resources like trees from wanton destruction. Trees have been established to be crucial water catchment tools. As such, ladies and gentlemen, these strategies are vital in maintaining global sustainability. We have a role to play in ensuring that our children and the future generations can find the world which they will be proud of.

Appendix
The audience gained a lot from this speech by them observing the specific speech listening skills. A significant number of them maintained eye contact with me during the speech giving process, secondly. Secondly, they asked questions on areas which they seemed not to have understood. Finally, they took down a few notes an indication that they retained most of the points I told them about. On my side, I employed hand gestures and demonstrations when stressing my points which were vital for their understanding.
