Many seemed to believe that China and Russia’s ties is becoming a potential threat to nations around the world including the US. This is also an opinion shared by Russia’s president Vladimir Putin. The recent bilateral agreement between China and Russia was the largest deal signed between the two countries. The deal amounts to around $400 billion dollars involving Russia’s Gazprom to supply China’s National Petroleum Corporation . The agreement specifies that Russia would have to supply approximately 38 billion cubic meters of gas to China from 2018 to 2048. The article was trying to establish that this alliance between China and Russia could eventually become a threat to the US because the two countries had been supporting each other including exercising their right to veto some the proposals endorsed at the United Nation’s Summit.
Although this alliance doesn’t seem to create any threat, the best way to prevent any possibility of these two countries becoming what is feared to become is the US making its foreign trading policies a little lenient. The pressure that the US has imposed on China and Russia should be loosened a little bit to gain the trust of the two countries. The US has been playing a hegemonic role for the longest time and other nations see this as a sign of arrogance on the part of the US. Due to this perception, many nations are secretly forming an alliance against the US which may eventually create a bigger threat if economically and strategically well-positioned strong countries will join forces. Instead of trying to control and manipulate other nations on its favor, the US should try to gain a solid partner and ally out of the nations who are perceived threats to the sovereignty of the nation.
