The Disney version of Cinderella has some significant differences from the original version by Charles Perrault. The general plot is similar but several episodes in the film differ a lot from the book story.
First of all, Disney Cinderella meets the Prince in the forest for the first time, while in the book they only meet first time at the ball. In the first story Cinderella did not know who her new acquaintance was. In Perrault’s story Cinderella met the Prince twice, while in the film she only visited one ball. There is a color difference in the ball dresses of Cinderella. In the film she has a blue dress while in the book it is gold and silver.
Finally, the end differs as well in the stories. In the book Cinderella forgave her sisters for cruel attitude to her, gave them the apartments in the royal palace and married them to the two noblemen. In the film Cinderella forgave her step-mother and her sisters, but did not marry them as they have left the kingdom.
In general the Disney film has much in common with Charles Perrault’s story. They have the same idea, the same characters, the same plot. Both tales describe the step-mother and her two daughters as cruel and angry women, who humiliate Cinderella. The young girl suffered a lot as she had to overcome serious difficulties on her way to better life.
Nevertheless, there is a wonderful harmony between the two works. The film improved the story, visualizing the emotions that Charles Perrault wanted his readers to experience. Even though, there are some differences in several episodes, both stories are worth watching as they are beautiful in their own way.
