When I work as a nurse with Beth Israel Hospital, I had a great experience. The profession of nurse should protect the patients against health care errors. On June 1st 2016, I have assigned to a methadone patient. It was my first exposure to psychairic and I was quite nervous about the patient reaction’s and how he would respond to me. I have collected a past medical history about the patient that he was Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus type 2, and also he had strong abuse of drugs. He had NKA were denied pain in right arm. By communicating with the patient, I have observed past history of his drug abuse.
I learned from the clinic that it is significant for nursing staff to have good knowledge about communication skills. Through this use of communication, I observed that the patient becomes comfortable to share his inabilities and feelings. As the patient becomes sick, they should have experience patient centered care. I recognized that customized nursing care would provide the patient outcomes. I have advised the patient to have some healthy life changing choices. Through the empathetic discussion with the patient, I was able to understand the root of addiction. By asking more questions, I allowed the patient to share his treatment options (Woogara, 2015).
According to the safety, minimizing the risk of unavoidable cause with the health care might lead to an acceptable minimum. In that clinical experience, I didn’t use any inappropriate sharps to get relief from left hand pain. I feel that the teamwork and collaboration are the important perspective of the nursing profession. This was eventually proved in my clinical experience. One team member helped me to assist when I handled with the patient. I observed that he had arrhythmia and his HR was low. As my patient had chest pain, I decided to collaborate with my nurse by having my patient past medical history. I preferred another nurse for my findings in the patient, myself and her, both went through his vitals and assessments of days prior. We observed that the patient need to receive the treatment accordingly as new findings were not resolved.
According to the research of my patient, medications are the significant element of treatment for patients when they come up with the counseling. I feel that some new long acting formulation would work him and help him to reduce their illicit drug use as he had an addiction of drug abuse. While focusing on quality improvement, hospitals should be neat and tidy with good atmosphere. The hospital should have healthcare professionals and provide a good environment in the nursing unit. In the case of Beth Israel, the health care providers and quiet atmosphere help the patient to heal and recover.
Apart from this, information technology in healthcare has been significantly increased and become popular. The technology used in health care provides accurate care. In this patient case, I found that patients had irregular heartbeat I and the nurse were utilizing the technology to evaluate that these findings were new or need further intervention. With the help of the nurses chart on computers, the information regarding the patient would become accessible for accurate care.
I found my professionalism when I care my patient with my nursing practice. I feel that my nursing practice would be the best care for my patient. My professionalism also exhibits when I collected information about the patient’s history of drug abuse. I realized that professionalism promotes quality patient care. I had a wonderful clinical experience in Beth Israel hospital with my patient. Being professionalism, the above all competencies should have equal importance to provide health care to the patient.
