Comparative politics denotes a subfield of political science, which applies empirical approach that relies on comparative technique to view politics. It concentrates on analysis and description of the main types of contemporary political frameworks, including forms of dictatorships and democracies found in Eastern systems, Western systems, and the developing world. Besides, comparative politics concerns structures and policy problems, or challenges confronting these political frameworks: crises in agriculture, human rights, politics of education, political violence, demands for local or regional autonomy and welfare services, ethnic diversity and conflict, as well as other relevant topics. Influential political theorists, like Aristotle, have applied this approach to establish the nature of regimes. Therefore, comparative politics is a science, which is capable of determining whether a political regime is corrupt or good.
It is challenging to establish a science of comparative politics because science needs logical and linear thinking or judgment. This is inconsistent with other life experiences such as, socializing that squarely falls within comparative politics. Science needs a firm founding within the basics, which are unforgiving within comparative politics. Therefore, the fundamentals of science requiring consistency and logical thinking are challenges that can be accomplished by comparative politics.
In summary, logical, and linear thinking concerning informal and formal institutions like electoral rules, constitutions, civil rights, and property rights can be best handled in comparative politics. In science, it can be challenging to examine why and how people within different countries or groups, as well as cultures, construct or establish institutions to promote collective action. Whether diverse people construct distinctly dissimilar institutions, to handle similar challenges and why similar bodies, appear to work differently within distinct societies can be best studied as comparative politics rather than science.
