Human life is full of different people and interesting situations, which, very often, need the general consent in various moments. Here is the time for the appearance of the “hidden” term – compromise. The compromise is the mutual agreement on the basis of mutual concession. For the most part, it can be achieved by means of a dialogue between each other. The general compromise may be gained only by the insight of interlocutor’s motives; it is rather important, when something simultaneously depends on both parties. Frequently, people just do not listen to others, except themselves; it is worth to mention, that one needs to listen to, not to hear. This is the main rule of compromise, where both interlocutors win. Even when a person is certain about the wrongfulness of his/her interlocutor for sure, it would be useful to try, in friendly conversation, to bring this idea to him/her prudently.
The compromise allows not to reject own interests and, at the same time, to be cooperative with other person or group of persons. To compromise, at first, one needs to weigh all positive and negative sides of every possible decision and to find the optimal way out, the so-called golden mean. The compromise may be found in every collision – for example, in conflict of interests or contradictory situation. The main subject here is to ratiocinate in isolation from own emotions and search for maximum personal benefits. If a person acts towards something subjectively, taking into account personal priorities, it will be difficult for him/her to appreciate the whole situation at its true value and to find the correct decision, because he/she will always put personal interests in the forefront. To be able to compromise, it is necessary to learn to offer up to some part of one’s interests for the common cause.
In addition, one should not mix the notions of compromise and consensus – the latter means the common agreement without any fundamental objections. In contrast to consensus, the compromise supposes objections, but the future decision should be convenient for all disputant parties at the most or to satisfy all presenting demands; though, here, it is necessary to meet mutual concession. To find the compromise in every contradictory situation, it is important to understand, that the constant attempts, to pull the blanket on oneself, are not always helpful during the solution of significant issues. Sometimes, people need to compromise for the sake of the common interests or more advantageous positions, which can be reached while looking for the compromise package. Only such approach will allow obtaining progressive results during the acceptance of important decisions.
Society welcomes such human quality as ability to compromise; because it is the remarkable trait, which is the evidence of strong character. Only weak-willed persons do not want to end the deadlock and to solve the compromise with the help of progressive method. Nevertheless, there are different sides of the same coin: the compromise can be applied either for the welfare or to evil ends. There exists the category of people, which not only tries to manipulate, knowing about compromise, but it also boldly tries to live on somebody and, in this case, the compromise indulges this kind of behavior. Such situation shows cases, when the compromise is impossible and unnecessary. Primarily, the compromise cannot and should not be reached in the situations when: an opponent weighs upon you, defending own interests, and he/she does not want to yield to you at all; the opponent tells about the necessity of compromise, but does not want to achieve it in practice; there are alternative variants for the settlement of conflicts and, when a person always needs compromises, it is more rational not to communicate with such person, if possible.
The compromise is very thin thread in the cultured settlement of problems between representatives of one society. The compromise is the possibility of the mutual refusal from any personal interests. It is rather complicated to juggle with compromises; here, one has not to eliminate distinction between the progressive problem solution and the transition to the parasitical relations.
