Free Conserving Non-Renewable Energy Essay Sample

Human beings have been using non-renewable energy sources since centuries and Fossil fuels such as coal, gas, uranium and petroleum, which are the principal energy sources, are getting extinct due to over consumption. The energy used in United States from the non-renewable resources is more than 85 percent, and the country also has substantial coal reserves. Almost half of the United States population uses electricity produced from coal. The industries rely heavily on the non-renewable resources and the depletion of these resources is higher in the developed nations. Americans are also heavily dependent on the natural gas produced from non-renewable natural resources to serve the purpose of cooking, and powering vehicles.
The problem of this continued dependence on fossil fuels is a huge loss to the environment, and the firming up of the weather change effect. Considering the rate of consumption of these fossil fuels, coal would be depleted in the next three decades, and natural gas would be exhausted in 100 years from now. The main challenge in non-renewable resources is to reduce the amount of harmful substances like carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide that are released in air causing damage to the environment, dangers such as death in coal mining, and increased investment in the machinery to extract oil.
The challenges in conserving non-renewable resources can be reduced if more of renewable sources such as solar energy, geothermal energy and wind energy are used, and a few changes to our lifestyle like car-pooling, switching off the electronic devices when not in use, and purchase second hand goods. U.S. Department of Energy has been successful in using the technology to capture the carbon emitted in air, store it and produce domestic oil. Petroleum dependency has been reduced by developing better lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, and the government is supporting the usage of Ethanol, a fuel to reduce dependency on foreign oil.
