The question about how women should be treated as compared to men has stirred much discussion on several fronts. Having a woman offender is no isolated case; it happens all the time. How then should they be treated? Do they deserve special treatment? These are some of the questions that need to be answered (in a bid) to ensure the treatment afforded to women (regardless of where and who they are) is justifiable by law. After all, irrespective of what they do, they remain the same vulnerable creatures: women.
Families tend to rely a lot on women for emotional strength. This, however, could change where the said woman involves herself in a crime and has to pay the price by going to prison. This has led to the establishment of several laws aimed at ensuring women receive the treatment that fits their sensitive nature. Common knowledge shows that prisons could be really rough and it would be unjustified to place women in such places.
Community service has been introduced as one of the means to punish women offenders. Instead of subjecting a woman (who could as well have children to watch over) to years in prison, it would be wise to have them work around their community. This will allow them make amends while meeting their responsibilities at the same time.
In conclusion, most women who engage in crime have been proven to do so hoping to improve their children’s livelihood. As opposed to their male counterparts, they are not as hardy, to mention the least. Owing to this, they deserve treatment that is way different; all in line with their susceptible nature. Additionally, they are also more likely to make amends (and faster).
