Management Information System is an electronic system that is used to provide necessary information in order to manage an organization effectively. The design of MIS is very important as so it should be designed in order to increase the communication between employees. MIS supports the strategic goals of the organization. A well-defined MIS not only shows the current situation of business but also shows the reasons why business is going up or down. Some of the Management Information System used by organizations is discussed below. (Shelly, Cashman & Vermaat, 1999)
Transaction processing system introduced in the 1960s is designed to tackle a huge number of daily and continuous transactions. Today, Transaction Process System is widely used in banks and supermarkets. Another management information system that can be used without the help of a computer expert is Decision support system (DSS). It has three main components i.e. database management system which is responsible to store huge amount of data, model base management system is responsible for transforming data into useful information for DSS and dialog generation and management system is responsible for providing user friendly interface between computer and user. The geographic information system helps us in viewing, understanding, asking and visualizing, the data in different ways in order to develop different relationship and trends. These trends are in graphical forms like charts, maps etc. (Shelly, Cashman & Vermaat, 1999)
Social media or social networking is one of the best sources to find a proper solution of business issues. The reason behind this logic is that social networking platforms such as Facebook and Linkedin make connections with the individuals who have mutual interests. These networks have the information of their users regarding their educational background, geographic location and browsing trends. Therefore, it is easy to find relevant group of people on the social media to collect their views regarding the strategic planning of business which ultimately benefits the decision making through DSS. Moreover, social media has a huge volume of users which is called internet traffic. This traffic can be used for the sales and reviews for any specific product. (Shelly, Cashman & Vermaat, 1999)
