Introduction Risk assessment is used in the management of activities in a particular environment. The process is mainly used in the identification of potential threats and hazards that may emerge in a given environment. This concept is mainly used under the circumstances that good health and safer environments are maintained.
However, there are three major issues that can complicate risk assessment and classification for correctional managers as will be explored in this paper.Three issues complicating risk assessment As much as there is predictability of performance of a given group can be implemented at any stage by correctional managers, predicting performance per person can be very difficult. This is based on the fact that there environmental and situational factors that may come up thus impacting differently (Banks, 2003). The accuracy of measurement of a risk factor also can limit a correctional manager.
This is because; accuracy is the best measure of validity and reliability which has to be evident consistently. There are various means that can be used in evaluating risk. Some may not be practical in some situation while others may work well. Therefore, in case the measurement used is not valid for a particular case, the risk factor may not be assessed in the correct way (Banks, 2003). The third part is the low base rate of risks. Low base rates can impede risk assessment since the group targeted may have very few incidents that can be used in determining a risk occurring through behaviors of individuals. The higher the rate of occurrences, the better the results while assessing the risk (Banks, 2003).
Conclusion
Therefore, low base rates, accuracy in the measurement to be used in risk assessment and determining the behavior of in a group sample can impede risk assessment and classification by correctional managers.
