Competency based education is one in which the learning is majorly student based instead of teacher centered. They are to make proper documentation concerning the study and not just making the assumption of what they are studying. In addition to that, they are to show the level of competence but not the work they have done to completion. The learning is also believed to be based on the principles of the adult learning that the learners are believed to be having their own learning needs and interest.
The type of the learning has variety of learning experiences in that, it increases the student’s opportunity and better understanding of the faculty. It also tend to increase the students objectivity and reduces biasness in learning and makes them responsive for most of their actions they undertake. This mode of the study tend to prepare students to the field of the nursing and equip them with the necessary skills needed in dealing with the patients from different backgrouds.
Patients with respiratory diseases tend to suffer most in the current world. The chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is believed to be a leading cause of the morbidity and mortality in places like the United Kingdom currently and requires much attention in the field of nursing. The competency measures for the practitioners involved in dealing with the patients with this kind of the chronic respiratory are as follows:
- They should work with respect to the values outlined in the code of ethics for the registered nurses by providing safe, compassionate competent and ethical care to the patient. They should try to promote health and well-being of the patients.
- They should practice in away that recognizes and show respect to the clients they are dealing with. This they should do by keeping the privacy of the client once he or she is diagonized with any disease. They should also respect the group of patient since they are coming from different background.
- They should try to apply ethical and legal principles related to the maintaining confidentiality of the client and should be known only by the two of them without indulging the third party.
- Maintains clearly, concise documentation about the information of the client and provide them when required for use.
Objectives of the competency standards for the nurses in dealing with the patients.
- On a regular basis discuss the smoking status of the clients and try discuss the ways of quiting the smoking and ways of reducing and clearly stating the effects of smoking to the client.
- Investigate for the respiratory conditions including the chests problems caused by smoking and give the necessary techniques of reducing it.
- Respiratory measures to be taken by considering the risks involved in the smoking and the devastating effects it brings to the client.
- Propose a stepwise way of managing the issue of smoking for lifestyle and the ways of medications related to the obstructive pulmonary diseases and asthma.
- Recognize some potential allergic symptoms necessary for the cause of some respitratory problems and ways of eradicating them or avoiding the infections.
- Document and clarify the allergies to medication with relation to the problems facing the client and keep it safe for future reference.
Adult health nursing I is one of the courses that students should take to equip them fully with the necessary skills in handling patients. It helps the students with the necessary skills in managing the patients with different disorders partaining to their profession. They are introduced to the research related to nursing in line with their profession in nursing and how to tackle the challenges. This also equips them with the communication skills and how to approach issues positively without making unnecessary mistakes. This course equips them with the capabilities of dealing with the adults clients in the nursing profession.
The two different activities for each concept besides reading the text is as follows:
- Reading workshop: is based on the premise that readers are destined to use in the field of study without necessarily using the text. With this they need a wider variety of materials for reading to have a better knowledge in relation to the study.
- Reading comprehension: the read comprehension, this enables the reader in gettin broader understanding in the context of the nursing which enables them to understand the basic information about the client’s problem
One of the clinical experience that allows students to apply what they are learning in practise is like the arranging for missions like visiting places related to their field of study. This makes them become exposed to the way of approaching issues related to the nursing and instills in them good communication skills which is very essential in any field of study. They gain experience related in admission information and also the issues of participating in rotations issues in which they change various roles in the organization for better service delivery to the patients.
Conclusion
In conclusion, nursing is lucrative profession which requires mor knowledge on how to deal with different class of people in relation to health issues. It calls for high level of competency and in depth knowledge on how to discharge ones duties. Through proper interraction with different kind of people helps one in making the best decision and good links that enables them to perform one functional and achieve their desired goals and objectives.
