The process of exploiting the environment by humans leads to environmental problems. Leon (2012) says that humans treat rivers as sewers by polluting the rivers and disrupting the ecosystem. The process of de-forestation decreases the number of plants that absorb carbon dioxide translating to enormous amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Leon (2012) cites the coal mining industry in pursuit of economic development degrade the environment.
The state of current technology necessitated by the modern culture perpetrates activities that deteriorate the quality of the environment (Leon, 2012).The Biosphere II experiment demonstrates that the atmosphere does not have a viable ecosystem to sustain humanity. The negative consequence of waste and pollution leads to the destruction of the natural resources. The current modes of agricultural practices work to destabilize the ecosystem. Leon (2012) contends that environmental problems make life unpleasant and inconvenient. Environmental problem generate a lot of toxic waste that consume a huge portion of the renewable energy. Environmental problems cause climate change that leads to insufficient production that creates the problem of malnutrition and starvation. Sulfur dioxide in industries leads to inadequate rainfall that leads to famine.
Crone (2012) says that human civilization is the dominant cause of change in the global environment. The capitalistic world has to consider the costs of pollution rather than just emphasizing on higher profit margins only. Countries need to forge long-term strategies to effect the climate change and ozone depletion. Long-term solutions affect the needs of the community, global environmental problems, and the future generations. Humans must work in joint effort to reconstruct the areas of conflict to ensure the survival of people to solve the environmental problem. People need education catered to identifying the environmental problem since many people do not realize the seriousness of the issue. Awareness will affect social change and reduce conflict over few natural resources. Among the people, that need education includes those who are aware but deny the existence of the problem. Education strives to provide social policy to address the environmental problem.
