Is College Worth It?
The education system in the United States has the world’s best schools, universities and professors. College education goes synonymous with success in order to achieve a higher-paying job, propel in career and build a status. The colleges and universities in the United States have a standard academic curriculum, which is the main reason for attracting millions of students worldwide. The heavy costs charged by the colleges towards tuition fees and high student-loan debts could not stop overwhelming students from getting college education . There is a huge gap between the amount invested by the students and parents, and the return on investment. However, it is not the fault of the students. The root cause of the problem is the role of the federal government to provide student aid and the poor performance of the colleges. The evaluation of certain data such as student-loan debt, abilities and interests of the students, lifetime salary earnings and academic performance is important for every student and parent .
The most talented students succeed in their career whether or not they attend a college. They are confident to pay off the debts in spite of poor employment prospects. A poor higher education system adversely affects the minorities and poor students. Affluent families send their children to selective colleges four times more likely than poor families whose children have comparable scores and grades . Nowadays, education has become a fond fantasy than necessity. Politicians view education as a basis to form the government. They argue that educated citizenry is essential in order to run the republic in an intelligent way. Liberal education has become hazardous when compared to the older days. Today’s colleges pressurize, program and train the students relentlessly to pick a few who succeed in the struggle . There are only a few colleges that really care about the students and do their best to save their future. Colleges must not discriminate on the basis of rich, poor and the middle class.
In spite of all the drawbacks, college education prepares the students for the tougher job requirements in the employment market. Companies complain that the students who pass out from colleges do not possess the required skills to achieve a gainful employment . The revolution in information technology and globalization has led to an increasing competition among the graduates. College education masters the students according to the employment standards. Graduates and postgraduates who pass out from the colleges earn a large sum of money when compared to high school students . Colleges offer a wide variety of courses in a flexible manner to allow the students choose their interesting field of education. There is a misconception that a huge sum of money invested in a business gives fruitful results than spending the same on a college degree. The fact is that a college degree improves the knowledge of the students to think analytically and logically and take the right decisions at the right time, which earns more profits when compared to a business .
