Society needs multiple outlets for expression. Art happens to be a very effective method. There are those that can never find the words to express what they feel on the inside. Art allows people to convey their ideas, feelings, emotions, and belief through dance, visual performance, literature, film, and fashion. Of course the list goes on, but all of those mediums are necessary.
When people can identify with something outside of themselves, then it makes them feel more connected to the world. That is how people relate to the arts. There will always be something that reaches out and speaks to the internal conditions of others. For example, a person can be having a horrible day, and that one song comes on that describes the exact mood they are in at that moment. That individual then feels more in tune with the artist, and respects the fact that their feelings could be put into worlds. The different avenues mean something different to each individual. Without art, people would be silenced. They would be banished to conveying their thoughts through conventional forms, such as talking or writing. Of course both of those can be forms of art, but it means something different when the freedom of expression is attached to it.
Therefore, the arts just allow flexibility within a person. It proves that no one person has to express themselves in the same manner as the next person. Those things afford people the opportunity to be who they are, and stay true to what makes them comfortable. Different ideas, paintings, movies, plays, paintings, and clothes are what add individuality to the world. They make things a bit more interesting and break away from everyday boring norms.
