a)
The concept of indexing refers to the mechanism of keeping the chances to know some open or closed. As the author indicates, it is a concept of adding and keeping track of information about people or novel concepts that one comes across. It is like a library or information storage that gets updated with new information. One can decide to close the index box when they decide that they have sufficient information on a person or a particular subject. Closing the index box means that you cannot add anymore information despite its value since you already enough about it (Erickson & Mattson,1981, Pg 543).
b)
Indexing affects my ability to form strong interpersonal bonds in both positive and negative way. Closing an index box on a person completely shuts that person out of your interest realm. As a consequence, I fail to get to know the person better hence a weak bond between the two of us. On the other hand, keeping the index box open allow me to add more information of a person, thus a strong interpersonal bond since I get the opportunity to know the person better.
c)
It is an awful feeling to find out that the index box has been closed on you. It means that the person has completely shut you out and uses the little information he or she has on you to judge you. It does not give one a chance to show his or her true self.
