John Wolford was very focused in his career even at an early age, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from the Californian institute of technology.
He initially took a job at the Hewlett Packard, a technology company at the Silicon Valley, where he worked for five years
Despite being a married man, Wolford still managed to work and attend management classes in the evening, a clear indication of his career commitment.
We are also informed that after leaving Hewlett Packard, Wolford took a management position at precision instruments, Inc, where he held various managerial positions, culminating to the acquisition of the company by Eurotech, USA a multinational, becoming the vice-president, where he is at the time.
Wolford’s commitment to the career, is also best explained by his conduct whether in the office or out of the office.
On this particular day, we are informed that he wakes up with a start and is annoyed that he is already late, yet there is a lot of things that he needs to do in that day. Its very evident that most of his thoughts even from his sleep are work related issues, and seems to be rather overwhelmed by the many things that he needs to do in a day.
We can also decipher that save for the personal bills that he needs to pay, most of the other activities are work related, starting from the meetings with his boss, a briefing from the CFO, a business meeting, preparation for the trip to London
Despite the many personal interests that Wolford has, we are made to believe that he has no time for such, since he is extremely busy, working for about 12 hours in a day, which goes a long way in explaining his commitment to career, since the normal working hours are just about 8 hours, yet even after the 12 hours, he still has an inbox full of unanswered emails
At his current position, he is in charge of over 800 people and commanding in excess of $ 600m in revenues, which is a highlight of his career success
Even in his personal conversations, he describes himself as an engineer and most of his passions are engineering related such as tinkering with mechanical devices such as vintage cars
He is evidently so busy that he has no time for his family, or his children. On this particular day, he refuses to take his son to school since he has no time for that as he is busy going through reports and preparing to answer his bosses
He confesses to not having seen his two daughters for a while and has not had time for the now ‘rebellious son’
He has also been too busy to even exercise and we are informed that he has even put on a lot of weight recently
We are let into his busy professional schedule, sometimes he is leaving the office very late and yet he has a really short time (3hrs) to drive home and prepare his luggage for the two weeks management training at the University.
So dedicated is Wolford in his work that sometimes it gets difficult to even separate his working life with his private life, since most of the time he is at home, even on weekends he has to answer to emails and many other issues.
