American Civil War is considered in history the deadliest one. There are over 700,000 soldiers and casualties of both colors died at that time. It actually started on labor issues between black and white people. Wherein, different forms of slavery and racial discrimination arise. Moreover, the war worsen when a variety of revisionists have offered different interpretations. The situation becomes more complicated and chaos. Everyone has issues on something to someone. W. E. B Du Bois is one of them. He is an African-American historian author. He has issues on the reconstruction governance, of which he finds the policy too exploited (Du Bois, 1935).
Based on his article, the implication after the war is not good. Instead of protecting their rights and individuality, they’re still under the so called race law. Instead of freeing them from slavery and other form of exploitation, another law is implemented “Jim Crow Law”, which separates them from everything. The Law prohibits black people to blend to white people. They have separate public transportations, toilets, and other accommodations. This to Du Bois is still injustice and unfair. It should have been fair to all accommodations and job opportunities. They’re should be no separation between the two races. Therefore, Du Bois finds the reconstruction of the government, a failure (Du Bois, 1935).
Du Bois is a persuasive one because he able to explain the both sides of the story without stepping on the borderline. He emphasizes the importance of equality and freedom, the essence of justice and democracy. He opens everyone eye and mind to see the reality.
