Rights to Freedom of Speech, Religion, Petition and Press
The right to freedom of speech provides me with the opportunity to express myself without any form of constraint from the government. In order for the government to interfere with my right to freedom of speech since then, the Supreme Court dictates that substantial justification is provided. Justification might include causing violence or breach of peace through speech. The freedom of religion provides me with the opportunity to assemble and interact with people we share the same beliefs. The government is not allowed to pass any legislation that establishes an official religion or in favor of a particular religion. My right to petition guarantees me the right to ask the government to correct some situation or provide an explanation to something; I can do this through litigation or any other action that is governmental. The right to press protects my freedom to express myself through dissemination and publications; this can be through social media, blogs or even magazines.
Right to Keep and Bear Arms
This right is constituted in the Second Amendment of the Constitution. The right to bear and keep arms is a restriction on the powers of the central government. I have the right to legally own a firearm for my protection and the protection of my family and friends (Cooke, 2015). I believe that this right is an extension of the right to life which is a fundamental human right. If an individual threatens my life, then I have the right to use any firearm in my possession for self-defense. According to the constitution, some of the ‘arms' that I can bear include swords, spears, knives, bows and arrows and pistols.
