Personal safety is always a priority to me, and I strive daily to attain it in several ways such as avoiding walking through areas prone to mugging and assaults. Concern about personal safety propels one to take preventive measures against being a crime victim.
Question 2: How would you prevent criminals from having guns?
Gun control regulations are some of the measures that can greatly reduce the percentage of criminals that have access to firearms. Nonetheless, this by itself is not nearly enough, and the government must take additional steps and put an end to cartels that engage in import and sale of guns in the country. That will to a great extent limit ease and availability of guns to criminals.
Question 3: Is gun control effective in preventing violent crimes?
Gun control is partly effective in preventing violent crimes. In the absence of guns, criminals result to use other crude or sharp objects to carry out crime. For instance, even in societies where gun control measures are being implemented, instances of stabbing are common. Gun control regulations, thereby, are only partially effective and do not eradicate occurrence of violent crimes.
Question 4: Do harsher punishments prevent violent crimes?
Harsher punishments do not prevent violent crimes but only reduce their occurrence. That is because it instills fear in the offender of facing the harsh punishment. Although the legal systems of the country might introduce harsh sentences geared towards prevention of crime, this might probably work for only a short time. For lasting solutions, there is a need to deal with the root causes of these violent crimes, such moral decadence in the society, unfavorable economic conditions and high levels of unemployment amongst youths.
