Introduction
Psychological or emotional senses are keys to living life happily. These senses are what keep people sane through the trying times. As Mac Pherson (2011) stated, the huge influx of new information from the sciences . . . [challenge] some traditional philosophical views about the senses.”
Below are the senses a particular individual lives through to achieve complete fulfillment in his life.
Theory of Sensation and Perception
Sensation and perception starts an eye opener for awareness (Grison, Heatherton & Gazzaniga, 2015). Sensation forms different ways people see, hear, touch and smell (Macpherson, 2011). Richard does his everyday tasks at work and life by feeling the situation.
As a CEO of a New York multi-national company, he uses his previous experiences and instincts in making his decisions. Buying a business partnership makes Richard reference to the time his company bought a business partnership with GE in the past. He surmises that partnering his company, Wells Fargo, with another multi-national company like in the past would bring about success. Richard’s Well Fargo currently partners with American Express.
A father of 4 and a husband, Richard often gets into fights with his family. He uses his effective sensation listening skills in understanding his family to make a change in his life. He tries to understand the grievances of his family, instead of pushing for his needs all the time. For instance, Richard tries to understand that his wife is broke that’s why she can’t always provide for the family. Richard used to yell at his wife for not providing enough things at the house. Using his sensation effectively makes Richard more selfless than ever before.
Theory on Learning
Learning takes time and effort to accomplish successfully. But once accomplished, it can help avoid multiple mistakes in life. Richard got into fights with his drunkard co-workers. He has the motto to never lose in all of his fights. Despite getting yelled at and being called names, Richard does not take it, with him losing. He even punches the faces of his opponents. Richard ended up in the hospital multiple times for physical injuries. His sons even cried out in despair, asking for their father to relent to stop hurting himself.
Nothing helped Richard in this aspect of his life. Not until he joined an anger management program did he learn his lesson. In the classes for anger management, he was taught of the long-term consequences of his actions. Richard learned he could even go to jail for his actions. Regular attendance in the anger management classes made Richard realize that he had to stop what he’s doing for the love of his family.
Another problem Richard has is a gambling addiction. He used to go all night spending his pay check on gambling so much so that he is not able to provide for his family. When Richard and his family almost got evicted from their apartment, that was when he learned his lesson to stop as his action has become toxic.
Theory on Memory
Memory serves as a gateway for retaining what people learn. Without it, people don’t have anything to refer to for their learning process. Richard notices his elderly mom’s Alzheimer’s disease before someone else does. Many dismissed his mom’s illness as just being “forgetful,” and nothing serious.
Richard got alarmed when he notices his mom forgetting loved ones’ names and events. He immediately had a neurologist check his mom’s memory condition. When indeed it was diagnosed that his mom had Alzheimer’s, the family thanked Richard for seeing the symptoms. They even referred to their relative as a life saver.
Theory on Thinking and Intelligence
Richard’s sons often get low grades in school. They are in danger of dropping out of school because of disappointment. Richard and his wife took time to enhance their kids’ thinking and intelligence by talking to the kids’ teachers. The parents made efforts to know the underlying problem of the situation. The parents did not care even though they had to take a break from work. Finally, they came up with a solution that proved to be effective in the long run. They enrolled the kids in an after-school program.
Conclusion
Readers have seen that the senses bring about fulfillment in Richard’s life so long as he uses hem appropriately. With these senses, the readers can also hope for the same positive outcomes in their life.
