Sergeant Heinz is the centre of climax in the case study. Being an experience officer for 27 years, the event that occurred exposed him to stressors. It would important to remember that before the incidence she had been investigated for knocking down an officer who was pursuing a felon on foot. The first thing that will affect the sergeant is occupational stress. This is due to the fact that shooting the officer with a birdshot happened during the line of work-training. Similarly a like event had taken place earlier. Secondly the sergeant will suffer secondary traumatization. This is the feeling of being responsible for directly traumatizing a person and sharing in their symptoms.
Sergeant Heinz needs to be put under therapy to help him handle both the stress and the trauma. To make progress positive change, there is need to involve continuous interaction with peer. However there should be adjustments to ensure that further incidences do not happen. This is because occurrence of such would raise both ethical and legal issues. Similarly, when all these are going on, sergeant should be investigated to understand if the actions have motive. The need to investigate his psychological stability and investigation of rumoured dementia should be put into focus.
