According to Hoffman, Bennett and Dell (2009), evidence based practices have helped health sectors grow swiftly as it has helped them improve the patient outcomes. It encourages innovations thereby improving the medics’ knowledge and reasoning skills with regard to swallowing disorders or communication disorders. On the other hand cultural diversity is the different range of norms and beliefs practiced by the doctors’ profession. Those in the medical field follow different steps when treating the disease hence the steps ought not to be the same but the end result should be qualitative.
The rationale for evidence based practice is to endorse healthy lifestyle change for the prevention of the disorders. Create awareness on the diseases through provision of education and reading materials to facilitate communication. The fit and specific rationale is to provide treatment and analytic services to the people disregarding the cultural diversity. (Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del, 2009)
The participants include the young and adults with the disorders and the healthcare providers who include the doctors, nurses, parents and relatives together with the behavior consultants. All have different skills to help in rectifying the problem.
The mostly followed steps by the specialists include; the speech therapists must first screen both the disorders that are communication and swallowing. This happens if there is a problem in fluency, memory lapse, voices becoming hoarse or even the functions of the esophagus for any referral to the specialists. Once the problem is assessed and established, the doctors diagnose and consult with each other for them to start the treatment. The speech muscles are coordinated for them to strengthen. Demonstrations are involved by use of images through games. The flow of words is enjoined by regulating breathing. ( Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del. 2009).
Both children and adults are equally affected by the disorders. Mostly in children is through child birth while in adults it develops later in life. The disease is detected at any stage of an individual’s life.
The result of the services offered by the specialists and the combined efforts of the non professionals is a more composed individual, fluent thus able to communicate effectively. Specialists gain knowledge and satisfaction in the process.( ( Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del. 2009).
Every participant should be knowledgeable in the field and should have patience as results are not portrayed immediately but diversified professional help should be seek in case of no response over a long period.
However, the parties involved should never discriminate the patients and must have the required skills to handle disorders. Specialists should embark on discussions with fellow professionals.
All the patients with type of problem should never lose hope on regaining the speech back and should always be encouraged and involved in many activities. ( Hoffmann, Bennett, & Del. 2009).
