Undoubtedly, Bob Dilworth's paintings Daniel and James became a significant part of the exhibition "Memories of Inhabited Spaces" at the Klaus Art Center. The picture can be described as a bright and extraordinary work of art performed in the style of Pop Art. The artist used several different techniques to create his works, which makes it innovative automatically. Owing to the bright colors and unusual details, the picture immediately attracts attention so that the observers cannot take their eyes off it for a long time, analyzing the symbols and values of the composition.
If one talks about the colors and details of the painting, it is worth noting that the artist did not work over the details. The base layer is performed in an abstract style; all the lines have an irregular, wavy shape. According to Siclen, the picture is "embellished in a way that's both deeply heartfelt and more than a little obsessive". The next layer's speciality is color; according to Siclen, the author uses the technique of chaotic application of acrylic paint creating "spray-painted zips and dashes" (Siclen). Some details of the picture, e.g. flowers, have the impressionistic features. This effect has arisen due to the multi-layer paint application that creates a feeling of blur and bulk. This canvas combines Impressionism with realism, which is an innovative approach. In addition, the picture contains some elements of portrait and landscape. The artist uses a black-and-white photo for creation of realistic details in the context of a fantastic landscape. The painting depicts two men, one of whom sits on the chair and holds conversation with another, who gazes intently at the bright flowers of unknown plants. The composition can be called asymmetrical, as some details are psychedelic. The picture does not depict directly the artist's experiences and emotions, every detail is symbolic; therefore, the master leaves the viewer with an ability to discover the secret of the painting.
One of the most notable characteristics of Pop Art is the use of such techniques as collage and installation. Both techniques are inherent in this picture. The artist uses many details that have no connection with each other but form a coherent composition with multiple meanings. Every detail is a separate symbol. For example, bright flowers at the bottom of the picture represent or define the mood of the men or the type of their environment. The artist portrayed men differently; one of them is detailed, while the other one is depicted more abstractly. The exhibition "Memories of Inhabited Spaces" demonstrates that the skill, imagination, and technique of Robert Dilworth are one of the most exciting, versatile, and sophisticated in the contemporary world art. His main strength, perhaps, is a combination of rich imagination with inexhaustible inventiveness and continuous experimentation. The artist's paintings illustrate his deep interest to the difficult technique show. He uses a wide range of professional technical equipment for giving accurate memorable effects for a final image. The viewer can trace Dilworth's interest in photography by the example of the picture Daniel and James. On this basis, the artist's use of photos along with psychedelic elements attracts attention and makes people think about the meaning of the composition. Every detail of the picture interacts with the whole composition, filling it with several senses simultaneously.
