Introduction
Management Information System is an important operational management system that companies usually install for making the work system easy and it facilitates fast and quick management of the company’s operations and other routine activities. In order to install MIS, some considerations are required to be taken so that the system can be properly installed and is suited to the requirements of the company. An effective infrastructure is the one that is able to give significant contributions to the operations, growth and profitability of the company (Toma, 2010).
Xedous is a large clothing company and has the requirement of developing the initial MIS infrastructure. Following questions and considerations are required to be answered when looking at development of MIS infrastructure. These are mentioned in following section.
Questions to be answered
Periodicity: How frequently the members of Xedoeus are going to use and receive the reports that are produced by MIS whether monthly, quarterly, annually, or regularly on online basis, etc. Gathering knowledge about periodicity of report collection will be helpful in installing correct software for automatic generation of the report as per the time set by the company (Toma 2010).
Information recipients: The next question to answer is- who will receive MIS reports or who will have access to such reports? What kind of information is sought for different management members and different functions (McRoy, Flanzer & Zlotnik, 2012)?
Processes and actions: What processes and actions are going to be used in discussion of results and taking corresponding actions? For instance, periodic meetings of the general management, bilateral discussions, group discussions, etc. (McRoy et al 2012).
Input responsibilities for MIS: Who holds the responsibility for providing the raw information into the MIS? What are the procedures that are required to be put in place so as to ensure that all the data are fed into the system in a regular manner along-with maintaining the satisfactory level of quality of the data? It is essential to make sure that all the data is fed into the system in a timely manner with complete information that is meaningful too (Koumpis, 2012).
The process of documentation including collecting and feeding the accurate and appropriate data is one of the most daunting tasks for the management. This fact holds particularly true when the data that is to be put into the MIS has to be collected throughout the organization (Koumpis, 2012).
Information technology and systems: What types of software and hardware are used in the processing of the data and in generation of reports (Toma, 2010)?
