Question A
The increased ability to collect massive amounts of data and “connect the dots” may have both positive and negative implications on people as individuals. The effect of this ability on individuals may be caused indirectly by other parties such as those in commerce and government. One positive implication on individuals is the improved ability to determine what one needs versus what one wants. An indirect contributor in such a case is the marketing companies that may take advantage of this technique of collecting large amounts of data to determine what the individual wants. The individual may, therefore, receive suggestions on what to buy based on their collected data.
Another positive implication on the individuals is the improved ability to be vigilant. This improvement in security can be due to the use of 24 hours surveillance systems used to record such as cameras in the house. As such, the individual can live in a more secure environment due to the ability to collect massive amounts of data.
One negative implication of such a technique is the interference in natural life experiences. The use of such data collection methods may result in individuals adjusting their usual ways of life to achieve a particular desired result, as determined by other previously collected data. For instance, the child development process would be too controlled thus losing the natural experience. Another negative implication is the infringement on an individual’s privacy in an attempt to collect meaningful data. Organizations may take advantage of the knowledge that certain things influence people’s behaviors and as such, the companies may seek more data to ensure that they get to profit from the collected information.
Question D
If I were creating a montage of one-second videos from every day of my life, I would include only the most emotional moments of the day in the montage. This collection of videos would help me to reevaluate how I approach each day. It contributes to reevaluate because viewing just one most emotional second of the day would spark other memories of that day. If the recorded second shows an exciting moment full of joy on a day that probably started on a sad note, this will encourage one to understand how life emotions change and may not remain the same throughout the day.
