In the recent past, discrimination has become a common feature in the society whereby we have heard cases of individuals or a group of people being discriminated. Therefore, the term ‘discrimination’ can be defined as the act of unfair treatment to a person or a group of people which differs from one given to other people. According to Emily, discrimination can also be defined as unjust treatment to persons on the basis of cultural standings, gender, race and religion (13). Notably, discrimination is also a negative act towards an individual. In the current world, several forms of discrimination do exist and include racial discrimination where people are treated unfairly due to their race. Gender discrimination, a most common form that the society is trying to fight where women are normally victims of circumstances. There are also other forms of discrimination such as religion and ethnic discrimination. Discrimination can also take place in working places where certain groups of workers are barred from taking part in certain activities such as strikes to protest on poor pay a good example is the armed forces (Lucas 32).
In relation to the subject matter, cases of discrimination in the US have been noted from the past two events that took place recently. Through the analysis of blogs that resulted from the commercial super bowl event organized by Coca Cola in America it is evident that there is a lot of discrimination in America. One of the Situations that manifests discrimination is when America the Beautiful was sung in languages such as French, Arabic, Hebrew and Hindu during the event organized by coca cola, and one of the bloggers argued that an American patriotic song was sung in a terrorist language of which is an act of discrimination referring to a particular race as terrorists.
Additionally, discrimination is portrayed by a former congressman who argues that singing American song in other languages rather than English is an indicator of problems ahead, which also portrays discrimination towards other races. The reason being that the translation of a song into different languages does not lead to problems, but in turn markets the song through, which people will get to know about America. The song also leads to an issue of Americans being led by a black president, and who has also decided to deport immigrants to his country an act that other presidents have not done. This information also indicates discrimination in two ways where the Americans discriminate against their black president and the president discriminating against his fellow blacks. Racial discrimination is also portrayed by the Americans in that they regard the song(America the beautiful) as their own, yet the song was sang by a non-English speaker, and proceeded ahead to bar non English speakers from singing the song (Lucas 50).
On the other hand, discrimination has existed in the US army in regard to the dressing code and religious beliefs, but recently the military decided to do away with this discrimination. In this case, discrimination existed on a religious basis where military members were prohibited from wearing turbans and growing large beards, which is also discrimination against the Muslims faith. Allowing the Muslims soldiers to be wearing turbans while in service has served as a great relief and a great show of respect to their religious beliefs as Muslims. Evidently, with the various citations from the blogs, there is discrimination in the American society.
