It is plausible to denote that sustainability is a cross-functional issue and can be defined as the balance of the social, environmental and economic for the short-term and long-term performance. Human resources (HR) is viewed by many outfits as primary factor in the ability of maintenance and sustenance of competitive advantage. Many empirical and theoretical frameworks focus on environmental sustainable goals, the functions and relationship of HR roles in sustainability has not been broadly studied.
Objectives of the study

Research Questions
The study will attempt to answer the following research questions in an endeavor to provide solutions;
What is the relationship or connection between human resource functions and sustainable business strategies?
What HR roles contribute expressively to sustainability exertions by organizations?
Research Design
The study will employ a triangulation approach that entails both qualitative and quantitative design that does not merely look at agreement and disagreement of dataset, but puts the data into a more comprehensible explanatory framework. Castellan highlights that the inadequacies of particular programs can be overcome through the sound blending with the insufficiencies of other programs.
Data collection method
The method of data collection to be utilized involves semi-structured interviews. The participants to be involved in the interview process include HR professionals in regional and international companies. It is prompted by the diversity HR function which is to be also examined as a contributor to sustainable business strategies.
Data Analysis
The method of data analysis includes the review of theories and literature as regards some of the HR functions under study. The design involves extraction of quantitative data which will be used for descriptive statistics. The statistical software to be used for analysis is SPSS.
Structure of the thesis
The first chapter of the thesis gives an introduction as concerns the contribution of HR functions to sustainable business strategies. The second chapter reviews relevant prior literature and theories. Chapter three underlies the methodology with chapter four is provided for the data analysis and findings. The last chapter (five) concludes the findings of the study.
