Earth Charter is an informative piece of that gives emphasis not only on the earth itself, but also the activities that humans do. It provides a broader view of how humanity becomes a part of a bigger, wider universe. Although we all live in the planet earth, it is no doubt that humans have become part of the universe in terms of exploration and extended studies that aim to discover new things beyond what is visible in our planet. However, such capability may not be possible without the support of the life-giving resources provided by our home planet.
Exploring outside the earth is just one thing and the multitude of human activities that happen in all parts of the world is another. These activities are often become the primary reason that damages in our planet occur. The dominance of productivity and high level of resource consumption enable the people to continue live, thus, such actions are the reasons that the resources given by to us by this planet are gradually becoming a devastated one.
The Earth Charter serves as a message to every person in this planet that everything has its end. This planet’s life-giving resources are not unlimited by nature. Although they have the power to regenerate, it will take time for them to provide what people normally consume on a higher amount. There is one significant issue that the Earth Charter wants to portray – Earth is now a vulnerable piece of a greater universe that needs help.
The principle that the Earth Charter expresses primarily focuses on the essence of protecting the life in this planet, across all diversity (Earth Charter 2). There is a message in this charter that humans who take care of the environment must also care about the others. Every person in this planet must respect another person, regardless of ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, and belief. No one will respect humans aside from another human himself. In other words, peace must be applied on all aspect, across every nation in this planet.
These actions of caring for one another may start within the community. a peaceful community has the power to influence other parts of the nation to promote peace instead of conflict with each other. Besides, caring for Mother Nature could also mean caring for other people, as humanity is part of the so called Planet Earth, from which all species interact with each other through numerous ways.
Moreover, it is important that every action that a person makes should be in line with the Earth Charter’s advocacy to promote peaceful, healthier, and abundant life in our home planet. It was stated that ecological integrity is another essential factor for achieving such advocacy. Thus this can be done through responsible use of our resources. People must learn the essence of sustainable development in order to conserve the environment and enable the natural rehabilitation.
Relatively, the presentation that I will be making soon will be based on the Earth Charter’s principles, which will highlight how every community can contribute to the promotion of respect for the community of life, sustain the ecological integrity, provision of economic and social justice, and campaigning for peace and democracy. I believe that if these factors or principles are worked out and achieved by most people in this planet, then, there will be a better planet Earth that waits the next generation in terms of healthy, peaceful, and resource-abundant life in our home planet.
