In my reading of Niedecker’s Poems, her use of sounds manifests largely in almost all parts of her literary work. In this regard, she makes of use of sound devices such as repetition, assonance, alliteration, consonance, rhyme, Onomatopoeia and Idiophones. It is significant to note that, it is due to the effect of these devices that my reading is enhanced as follows;
Niedecker’s poems are rich in repetition. More than often, I find that she constantly repeats some statements or special words. In essence, the repetition gives the text a lyrical lilt. As a result, I find myself reading through her poems in a manner that keeps me on the track of what her subject at hand is all about. Similarly, her repetition especially when it comes to the regarded words for repetition, I find it interesting to continue reading through her literary work. Essentially, this instance has always placed me on a craving zone for more of her poems.
On similar circumstances, I have come to appreciate that, my desire and zeal to read her poems, unlike other poets, is a result of her well ramified use of alliteration and assonance. In the end effect, her poems are interesting and memorable, for example in his poem, the words ‘lights’ and ‘lifts’ are placed in close succession. They result to alliterating sounds. At the same time, assonance is ‘manifested by the use of this and white’. On the other hand, her poems have always made me have an enjoyable moment because; her choices of words with the succeeding musicality aspects facilitate the above phenomenon. In such a case, he makes use of ‘grey, yellow and gulls’ to specifically pass a message. Niedecker’s use of sound effects such as Onomatopoeia and Ideophones emphasize on the themes of her poems. About her well faceted schemes in designing the use of sound in her poem, I have always understood her poems within a reasonably short time.
In my view, fundamental instances that facilitate her dominance in the field of Poetry are along aspects of sound devices.
