VITAMIN WATER ADVERTISING CLAIMS
This Coca-Cola advertisement on Vitamin water is a deceptive advertisement. Its relation to offering protection same as flu shots or exercise is not only misleading but is also potentially dangerous to consumers. In order to successfully justify the abilities of a product, all elements that contribute to that particular justification should not only be labeled but also indicated in their rightful propositions. The case of Vitamin water advertisement for instance, there is absolutely zero evidence in the product has the capacity to replace flu shots (media.pearsoncmg.com).
I think it’s high time the law adopts the idea of “buyers beware”. The law will, at least, push the consumer to read product labels in detail. Most consumers don’t even take their time reading labels because of the absence of sensitization, particularly from the government. Presently, product manufacturers and distributors put elements on their products including respective effects without documented proofs for the same.
States and congress should be a little more assertive as far as regulating items based primarily on health issues are concerned. I concur in the views of the medical and health editor that drinking water and washing hands will always keep people healthier than many health products existing in the market today. Companies will always throw very exciting adverts to the public to win better shares of the market notwithstanding the health concerns of consumers. They take advantage of the ignorance of many consumers to explore the available market opportunities. From business point of view, these companies will win consumers but in unethical way. Corporate are expected to hold values and care for the consumers and environment where they trade. Laws should be put in place to aid product safety and consumer protection.
