Alcoholics anonymous is whereby both men and women come together to share information about their experience, hope and strength with a goal of solving the nightmare of alcohol bondage among the people. I worked hard to identify an organized meeting on AA so that I could take part in it. I kept everything simple as going to such meetings needs an amount of registration or either booking of appointment. The meeting had a congregation of more than one hundred individuals who had volunteered to attend. It was an open meeting and everyone was allowed to attend. This was my first meeting on AA and at first I was a victim of fear and lack of confidence which to a large extent traumatized me. What I experienced was absolutely different from what I had previously experienced and anticipated. I was so scared and afraid but I realized that my fears were groundless and all the participants were open, friendly and very relaxed indeed.
In my opinion i could argue that the energy level of the AA meeting was set at a very higher pace. The people who attended the meeting were full of energy and passion. All individuals were very enthusiastic and very happy during the meeting. They appeared so full of life to an extent that I found myself very confident and felt part of the meeting. Every individual was joyous, ever-smiling and free to interact without any form of discrimination. The aspect of fear and shyness was kicked away as listening to the various experiences stories was well organized and seemed to freely flow. The Alcoholic anonymous was well received and attracted people who were glued to sincerity and shared experiences with much energy.
I learnt that the people who attended the meeting were also addicted to alcoholism and their exchange of information was intended to stop the habit amongst themselves and also to people who were still drinking alcohol. My thoughts for the meeting were also centered on a single-mindedness philosophy. The mission and vision of Alcoholic Anonymous is to offer help to alcoholics. I felt the sharing of information helped people rectify their alcoholism problem so that they could be accepted into the society.
I believe that Alcoholic Anonymous is a very effective approach to curb alcoholism. This is because members of the society come together to willingly share their experiences. AA seems to stop alcoholism in an easier way compared to other previous approaches that had been employed. The great feature is that people are free to become members without any obligations. These have attracted a large number of people and when they exchange the information, they easily make a decision to stop alcoholism. My opinion is that AA should be made more popular and the administration must ensure that all the regulations surrounding it are followed to the letter so that it becomes more successful and serve the purpose to curb alcoholism.
In a nutshell, AA is said to be an organization that is intended to directly stop the habit of alcoholism. It is not a religious organization neither can it be considered to be a cult. It’s an association where volunteers who have experiences on alcoholism help each other by giving suitable piece of advices. It is very important to keep things simple and be focused in eliminating alcoholism.
