1899 Filipino Case Against United States
Regardless the political context of these two documents, they refer to the two major values for humans - freedom and liberty.
Theodor Roosevelt has made a statement that in the case of correct using of the freedom, the man still actually works regardless one’ social status and profession – whether a writer or a general, whether in the area of professional experience of exploration and adventure or the political science. Such individual proves that the good fortune is deserved by one. Otherwise, if such individual enjoys the freedom, while not interrelating this time with the need of actual labor, one is the cumberer of the earth’s surface (Roosevelt 4)
This statement a supported by the evident example, provided by Emilio Aguinaldo that the unique spectacle takes its place in the world of politics as the “Filipinos fighting for liberty, the American people fighting them to give them liberty” (Filipino 428). He has stated that these two parties are fighting for the same object on parallel lines, while the parallel lines never cross (Filipino 428).
Theodor Roosevelt has expanded the statement, made by Emilio Aguinaldo and has claimed that there is an urgent need of striving for the honesty in all its dimensions- either in relation to the particular individual or to the whole humankind. The first duty of the nation was defined by Roosevelt as keeping its borders. At the same time, he has stated that there is a need of perceiving the world as a whole. Otherwise there is a risk of losing the nation’s right for struggling for the place among the nations, shaping the destiny of mankind (Roosevelt 15).
This conversation was concluded by Emilio Aguinaldo in the following manner: “Give us the chance; treat us exactly as you demanded to be treated when you rebel against her autocratic methods” (Filipino 428)
