Autonomous cars
The emergent technology chosen by me is ‘Autonomous cars.”
Description:
Autonomous cars are driverless or self-driven cars which are an innovative and relatively newer form of technology. A few of them have been tested on roads and highways as a means of experiments for validating their success and safety (Fehrenbacher, 2016). While generally the roads are a place of immense traffic, there is great risk associated with a car driving without human intelligence behind the wheel which may cause an accident and loss of life. However, technology is planning to change this conception and move artificial intelligence to another level of excellence by designing cars which are completely automated, designed for the road, sensitive to traffic and are less prone to accidents that result from human error (Fehrenbacher, 2016). The basic purpose of autonomous cars is to help reduce traffic and improve the flow of traffic on the roads and to help people reach their destinations easily. These cars are experimental because it has been centuries since people have become driving cars by themselves that the idea of using a car that does not need their help to operate will be indigestible. Yet, these cars are very sensitive; they operate on GPS and are speedy and accurate on the roads. They are helpful in providing a more comfortable and leisurely commuting experience to a person (Keating, 2015). Moreover, technology has made these cars theft-proof and their convenience will also reduce the need for traffic police and surveillance. Google and Tesla Motors have already trialed these cars on the roads and they are working towards improving their safety (Keating, 2015).
Thesis statement: Although they are a highly experimental, novel and seemingly adventurous emerging
technology, autonomous cars are the future of automobiles in the world.
