I consider goal setting to be an extremely important part of my career. I have always pictured myself as living an absolutely successful life along with making huge money. It is no secret that everyone wants to do well in his life, both socially and financially. However, the question is how many people actually make money by doing what makes them happy? According to the statistics, about 70% of people in the United States are unhappy while 30% of the employees are engaged and inspired at work. If the truth is told, even though my dreams are big considering receiving of high salaries; I also yearn for a rewarding career where I know I will wake up every day happy and ready to walk out the door and head to work! Rendering services as a counselor at a juvenile court is what I will love to do as it could reward me both spiritually and financially.
As far as juvenile counselors are concerned, I believe that they are capable of performing one of the most imperative, worthwhile, and satisfying of social obligations. They help bothered and disturbed adolescents become psychologically happy, healthy, and productive citizens. When I analyze myself and my life, I can honestly reveal that my childhood was not a bed of roses. Out of 16 siblings, I was the youngest and now well-liked among my family members. One of the major reasons I want to pursue a career as a counselor is that I have experienced the ups and downs of teenage years. I believe that I would be able to feel the sentiments, emotional state, and pain of the juveniles. Being raised in different foster homes, I know how it feels to be neglected, abandoned, and alien. Helping out juvenile clients would not only be an opportunity to earn money, I would be able to make a difference in their lives.
It is important to mention here that I did not always wanted to be a juvenile counselor. My interest was to work in the medical field. Unfortunately, I was labeled a juvenile delinquent. However, this label did not affect me negatively. It motivated me to open up a program for juvenile delinquents so that they could have somebody to help and guide them towards the right path. The best thing about being a juvenile counselor is that this profession is not practiced in particular geographical locations. In fact, the criminal justice system is not the only institution where one can offer services as a juvenile counselor. The professionals can hold positions in a number of settings including hospitals, clinics, social work offices, and academic institutions. As the environment in each setting is different, the experiences for both the counselor and client vary.
This profession is also appealing to me as it could help me in earning handsome income. According to the statistics provided by BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), a juvenile counselor may earn up to $47,240 on a yearly basis (Price). Also, there is a rather healthy job market for this profession. BLS also reports that “jobs for counselors are expected to grow by 19% between 2012 and 2022” (Price).
