Personal Ethical Decision Making
I had to make the decision to follow my workplace terms and miss my father's funeral or attend my dad's funeral and lose my job. With all this in mind, I had to make a choice choose to attend my father's funeral then hoped to go back and try to talk to my boss. It was the ethical thing for me to do although my job was on the line. Fortunately, after attending the funeral I went back to work was offered my resignation letter but luck happened to be on my side a board meeting was held and the decision to fire me was reversed due to a few reasons including the fact that I was the employee of the month the previous month. This was a lucky thing to happen a thing I could not have imagined. I was ready to take responsibility for my decision including losing my job.
What is the conflict at hand and what is your position on it? Losing your Job and being there for your family at the time of need. My position on the issue is to be there for my family.
What's at Stake? My job and my family are the two things at stake in the situation. So would feel it's not worth losing your job because my father is already dead while other felt the job was not reason enough for me not to be there with my family at the time of need.
What argument are you trying to counter? Is it worth losing my job over such an issue or should I consider my family first?
What responses to those arguments above are most powerful and persuasive? How much family means to me as compared to my job is the most persuasive point.
Which allies if any will help you make your case? In my case or situation, I am in the situation all alone.
Conclusion
The checklist of actions shows how viable my situation was in relation to ethical decision making situation and also analysis the choices I made when I was faced by the situation. Ethical decisions are not easy to make and require once commitment.
