Management
The topic is apparently very broad and the manner of interpreting it in a study encompasses several advantages and disadvantages. For one, the articulation of the topic is very convenient on the part of the writer in a positive way. On the other hand, it has a disadvantage particularly in terms of finding the focal point of the paper that can potentially lead to an unexplored knowledge in the field of criminal law. In terms of applying the context of law enforcement as a whole, the paper was able to presents a satisfactory amount of information as observed on how each section was constructed. However, not all of the paragraphs begin with a connecting topic sentence. For instance, Section C talks about crime reporting. Although the beginning sentence was able to provide a reasonable definition of the topic, it lacked a good amount of articulation and more detailed articulation of what crime reporting is about and how its concept applies in law enforcement.
Another minor problem observed in examining the content of the work is that it lacks adequate documentation of facts with the use of real-world example. There are obviously cited works indicated in the body of the text, but it could have been more succinctly explained if there examples given to demonstrate understanding of the discussed concept. For instance, Section B on Crime Control and Law Enforcement talks about the concept in general terms. In the first paragraph of the aforementioned section, it was mentioned that police plays a significant role in the process of enforcing the rule of law. However, it does not provide a considerable elaboration of how the role of police is associated with crime control. Furthermore, there were unfinished sentences found in the text that could have used a little more thought to improve the contextual quality of the content. When it comes to length of sentences, the text appears to demonstrate inconsistencies where several sentences are excessively long.
On the other hand, the text showed effective use of academic and professional terminologies and has avoided the use of colloquial terms. It is important that academically written texts should follow a considerable level of professionalism in which jargon and colloquialism are not encouraged (Jones, 2010). Another important aspect of the reviewed work is the lack of smooth flow of idea from one section to another. For example, the last sentence in Section D mentioned about the role of police in the criminal justice system, and that sentence ended the paragraph without further elaboration as to why such role relevant in the criminal justice system. That statement was not also linked in the succeeding paragraph under Section E. The transition between the two paragraphs and section could have been done more smoothly if there was a link between the last sentence of the prior paragraph and the first sentence of the succeeding paragraph. When it comes grammar and spelling errors there is room for improvement, but the issue is very minimal.
One of the notable examples of grammar error found in the text is the third sentence in the second paragraph of Section B where the basic of subject verb agreement was overlooked. In that particular sentence, the first word is “relationship”, which is plural; therefore, instead the verb should be “are” instead of “is” (Purdue OWL, n.d.). Another basic grammatical mistake that should be corrected is the use of punctuation where the use of “which” should be preceded by a comma. On a positive note, there was no evident use of contractions and proper words were used throughout the body of the text. In addition, the citations were formatted accordingly with the prescribed formatting guidelines. There is consistency in writing from the third person perspective, which is a prerequisite of a proper academic writing. Lastly, the assertion of the relevant points about the topic was clear and objective except on some areas where further elaboration could have made the context of the topic more succinct.
